Memorial Day weekend opens Saturday with a brand new farmers market downtown. The Local Colorado, the team behind the Parker market, sets up on Nevada Street for the first time. Nearly 40 vendors, Saturday mornings through September. A couple miles south on West Bowles, Lucile's enters its last stretch.
Saturday is the friction. High 69, 40% afternoon storms. Sunday and Memorial Day clear up and hit 80 and 82. Plan accordingly.
BIG NEWS
Lucile's Creole Cafe at 2852 W Bowles closes at the end of May. I wrote up the closure in Issue #7. Westword had it first. This week, luciles.com pulled the Littleton location off its locations list. The site now shows only Boulder, Longmont, Denver (two), Erie, and Fort Collins. The Littleton menu page is a 404. No specific final day has been announced publicly, but the site cleanup is the strongest signal you'll get that the wind-down is moving fast. Open 7 AM to 2 PM weekdays, 8 AM to 2 PM weekends. Phone 720-465-9908. If Lucile's has been part of your weekend, go this Saturday or Sunday. Don't count on next weekend.
The Shea Homes hearing scheduled for June 2 has been postponed again. TrailMark HOA President Ken Colaizzi posted two updates on May 18. The first asked TrailMark residents to plan on attending the June 2 City Council meeting for the rezone vote. The second, posted later the same day, said the City of Littleton had pushed the hearing back. The tentative new date is July 21. The HOA still supports the 27 new homes north of the Fire Station. The 450+ resident petition stands. Written comments to City Clerk Colleen Norton at [email protected] are accepted whenever the hearing lands.
Downtown Littleton has a new farmers market. The Local Colorado, the team behind the Parker Farmers Market, opens its Littleton operation Saturday on Nevada between Main and Powers. Nearly 40 vendors selling meat, dairy, produce, and bread. Every Saturday May 23 through September 26, except June 13. 8 AM to 1 PM. Free street parking plus free parking at the Littleton City Center. Opening day is Saturday. Go.

COMMUNITY CORNER
The Hogback Hogger. A reader tipped me off about a self-styled "Hogback Hogger" walking the north end of the Dakota Hogback near Dutch Creek. I don't know if there's a story here yet. Could be one neighbor's nickname for a territorial regular on the trail, or a small local legend in the making. If you've crossed paths with him on Hogback Trail or the connector down toward Dutch Creek Elementary, hit reply. Tell me what you've seen. If enough of you have, that's a profile waiting to happen.
Have a good Memorial Day weekend. Take an extra minute Monday morning if you can. The 8 AM cemetery ceremony at Veterans Circle is a quiet way to start the day.
