Your weekly field guide to Littleton, Ken Caryl, and the SW Denver foothills
Happy Friday. The pumpkin patch at Chatfield Farms is open Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, and you'll need a corn maze or general admission ticket to get in. Halloween is a week from tomorrow, and the Halloween page has more.
SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT
Ron Lamberson lives in TrailMark, holds a creative-writing degree and an MBA, and writes his novels in 80127. His newest comes out on Halloween. If you're new to the series, Heavy Metal Moon is the place to start. Garton Prog was born three light-years from Earth, and twenty-some years in, his achievements are growing past seven feet tall and mostly learning the "Hotel California" solo. He starts a rock band. Then a bandmate brings him a third- or fourth-hand rumor of another human in the star system, one who needs rescuing from the far side of it.
In Wormhole to Hell, his buddy Anvil figures Garton ought to be living the good life, but Garton's in a funk.
Pre-order Wormhole to Hell on Amazon and it's waiting on your Kindle October 31.
BIG NEWS
Life Time has filed plans with Jefferson County for an athletic club where Sears used to be at Southwest Plaza. The county logged the site development plan in February. Life Time's proposal is to tear down the old Sears and build a 103,000-square-foot club with an outdoor pool deck and indoor pickleball courts. The teardown will be handled separately from this filing, Life Time's narrative says. The county's permit list for the Sears address shows nothing newer than 2018. No sale of the parcel had been recorded with the county clerk as of Wednesday.
I asked Life Time whether it had announced a club there. Natalie Bushaw, its vice president of corporate communications and public relations, answered Wednesday. "I can confirm that Life Time has interest in the Littleton community for a future development," Bushaw wrote, and added that "it is premature to provide a confirmation at this time given the additional steps still required in the real estate and development process."
Deer Creek Library on Bradford Road opens as a full-service library sometime in 2028, says René Yaws, the Jefferson County Public Library's manager for Deer Creek. Full service includes meeting rooms, study rooms, dedicated children's and teen areas and things to check out, and plans for the rest of the building haven't been determined yet. The architects will present the design to the Library Board of Trustees in November for approval, Yaws says. The library's project page says it's getting ready to apply for permits so construction can start in early 2027.

GOOD TO KNOW
Monday, October 26, is the county's last day to mail a ballot. After that, use a drop box or a vote center by 7 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
A traffic sign hidden by a tree limb. In unincorporated Jefferson County, state law lets the county send the property owner a certified-mail notice to trim a limb over the public right-of-way that hides a traffic sign. If it isn't trimmed within ten days of the owner receiving the notice, the county can do the work and bill the owner. Damaged, missing or knocked-down signs go to the county's Road and Bridge Division, 303-271-5200, or a service request online.

Your Halloween house can go on the map. Reply with the address, what to look for and the nights it's lit, and it goes on the Halloween page by address. A neighbor's house goes in by street name, no address, unless the owner writes in. The list of houses goes in the October 30 issue.
Thanks for reading. See you next Friday, the day before Halloween.
